Research and due diligence

Read everything first, then have the meeting

Some questions cannot be answered until a great many sources have been read and reconciled, and the reading is the part that does not fit in anyone's week. What comes back should be a briefing whose every claim can be followed back to the document it came out of.

How it runs today

The question is asked on Monday and answered on Thursday by whoever had the least on. They read what they could find in the time, which is the first tier of obvious sources, and write a summary. Nobody knows what was not read, and the parts where the sources disagreed have usually been smoothed into a single confident sentence.

What the system does
  1. 01We agree what the question actually is and which sources count, which is most of the difference between research and a search.
  2. 02It gathers from your own material as well as the public record, so internal documents are not left out because they are harder to reach.
  3. 03It reads rather than summarises snippets, and keeps track of where each claim came from.
  4. 04Where sources disagree it says so and shows both, instead of averaging the disagreement away.
  5. 05It says what it could not find, because an absence is part of the answer.
What you get
  • A briefing in which every claim points at its source
  • The disagreements named, with both sides shown
  • What was looked at, and what could not be found
  • A pack that can be handed to somebody else and checked
Where it stops

It does not make the call. It assembles the evidence and points at the places where the evidence is thin, so that the person deciding knows what they are deciding on.

Where this shows up
  • Company, market and supplier diligence packs
  • A regulatory change traced to the procedures and documents it touches
  • Literature, prior art and competitor sweeps

One call, no deck. We will tell you whether this is something we can build for you, and if it is not, we will say that too.
