An agent that acts, inside limits you set
An agent is a workflow that chooses its own next step. It plans, calls your systems, reads what came back and decides what to do about it, which makes it useful for work whose shape is not the same every time. Getting it to stop when it is out of its depth is most of the engineering.
The task takes forty minutes and it is different every time, so it never gets automated. Somebody opens four systems, copies a reference between them, checks a rule, waits for something, comes back to it, and finishes by writing a short note that says what they found. It is too variable for a script and too repetitive for the person doing it.
- We agree what the agent is allowed to touch, and that list is fixed in the build rather than left to its judgement.
- It plans its own route through the task and calls those systems in whatever order the case needs.
- It checks its own output against what it was asked for, and retries or gives up rather than returning something that does not hold.
- Every call it makes is written down, so the run can be read back afterwards.
- Anything irreversible waits for a person, and it presents what it is asking for rather than a yes-or-no button with no context.
- The task carried end to end where it is routine, and carried up to the decision where it is not
- A readable trace of what the agent did, in order, with what each step returned
- A clear stop and a clear question wherever it reached its limit
- Tools and permissions you can widen or narrow later without rebuilding it
It does not get an open door to your systems, and it does not take an action that cannot be undone on its own judgement. Sending, paying, deleting and committing are the kinds of thing a person signs.
- Research agents that gather from your own sources and come back with a briefing you can check
- Operations agents that carry a multi-step task across several systems
- Review agents that read work against policy and raise only what fails it
Internal assistant
A chatbot that only knows your company, and shows you the record behind every answer.
Document and data extraction
Invoice parsing, contracts, archives: anything that arrives as a document, turned into records you can query and check.
Drafting and document generation
The first draft written for you, from your own material, in the form your work actually takes.
Scoring and evaluation at scale
The rubric you already use, applied to every case rather than to a handful of them.
Tell us the decision you want to fix
One call, no deck. We will tell you whether this is something we can build for you, and if it is not, we will say that too.
